Hykon Rose Clover , is a winter annual flowering legume in the pea family (Fabaceae). Native to Europe, western Asia, and North Africa, it is widely used as a forage, cover crop, and soil-improving plant. In California it is adapted to climates below 6000 feet Hykon Rose Clover is grown as a winter annual and grows from 3 –24 inches tall. Covered with fine hairs, giving the stems and foliage a soft, fuzzy appearance. Leaves are trifoliate (three leaflets), with oval to wedge-shaped leaflets that are pale green and often marked with lighter crescents. Produces rounded flower heads about ¾ inch (1.5–2 cm) across, consisting of many small flowers. Drought tolerant once established and well adapted to Mediterranean climates. Hykon Rose is a versatile plant used for forage, soil conservation , green manure crop and source of pollen for bees.

Hykon Rose Clover

Establishment:

  • Early fall (September-October): If irrigation is available
  • Mid to late fall (October-November): Ideal for most areas, especially when rain begins.
  • Winter planting: Possible in mild climates, but usually results in less growth and fewer flowers than fall sowing.
  • Clover does best with a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0
