WILDFIRE SEED MIX #2 - Erosion Control For Burn Areas
This mixture contains fast establishing perennial grasses and wildflowers for wildland seeding. All species in the mixture are California natives. Adapted to foothill, coastal, inland valley, and mountain areas under 8,000 feet.
California Brome: Extremely rapid establishment and vigorous grower up to 18 inches high. Produces dense stands and is useful for forage.
Molate Fescue: An attractive, drought tolerant grass that mixes well with wildflowers. Grows 12-18 inches.
Arroyo Lupine and California Poppy: Popular native wildflowers add winter and spring color as well as soil binding properties.
This mixture provides excellent erosion control in nearly any location including construction sites, roadsides, and forests recently devastated by fire where native perennial grasses are preferred.
Recommended seeding rate for this mixture is 43 pounds per acre or 1 lb per 1,000 square feet.
For natural areas without irrigation, seed during fall and winter in advance of rains. Can be established anytime of the year with irrigation. Perennial grasses can stay green in summer months if occasionally irrigated.
Results are best if seed is covered with 1/2 inch of soil. Seeding rates should be increased if soil coverage is difficult or impossible.
50% California Brome (Bromus carinatus)
36% Molate Fescue (Festuca rubra ‘Molate’)
11% Arroyo Lupine (Lupinus succulentus)
3% California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica)
200,000 seeds per pound
