WILDFIRE SEED MIX #1 - Erosion Control For Burn Areas

DESCRIPTION
This mixture contains fast establishing, reseeding annual legumes, grasses and wildflowers for wildland seeding.  Adapted to foothill, coastal and inland valley areas under 4,000 feet in western U.S.

Description of species used:
Rose Clover: Popular for erosion control on roadsides. Grows up to 16 inches high on poor soil. Excellent drought tolerance.
Blando Brome: The most widely used revegetation grass for erosion control and wildfire reseeding in California.  It has excellent drought tolerance needing only 10 inches of rainfall per year. It establishes rapidly and reseeds vigorously. Grows 12-24 inches high.
Zorro Fescue: A quick establishing grass that emerges in fall after the first rain. An excellent soil stabilizer that grows naturally throughout the west. Grows up to 24 inches in many types of soils. Light, wispy top growth never becomes its own fire source.
Arroyo Lupine and California Poppy: Popular native wildflowers add winter and spring color as well as soil binding properties.

USES
Provides excellent erosion control in nearly any location including construction sites, roadsides, and forests recently devastated by fire.

SEEDING RATES
Recommended seeding rate for this mixture is 35 pounds per acre or 13 ounces per 1,000 square feet.

ESTABLISHMENT
For natural areas without irrigation, seed during fall and winter in advance of rains. Can be established anytime of the year with irrigation.
Results are best if seed is covered with 1/2 inch of soil. Seeding rates should be increased if soil coverage is difficult or impossible.
